FLSA-Labor Law
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is one of the primary federal laws regulating employment compensation. Among other things, it establishes the federal minimum wage, sets out the requirements for overtime pay, and places limits on the employment of minors. That you are on salary or classified by your employer as exempt, by no means indicates that you are not entitled to overtime.
Do you suspect your employer is not paying you properly? Employers try to cut corners by requiring employees to work off the clock, refusing to pay overtime, illegally including managerial staff or non-service employees in tip pools, shaving hours off time cards, misclassifying non-exempt salaried workers as exempt, or any of a variety of other maneuvers designed to take advantage of their workers.
When in doubt, it is best to speak with a knowledgeable employment attorney to discuss your situation. The attorneys at Fink & Platz represent clients in both individual and class action claims to recover unpaid wages. If you believe you are not or were not properly compensated by your employer, contact us.
